Fred Voigt Becker

Received training in painting and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. He seeks a “poetics of painting” that combines the gestural and the decorative, process and the subconscious. Fred paints a hybrid of the hand, heart, mind, and design. He remains profoundly influenced by abstract expressionism but no longer desires to paint in that genre.

He states, “I require intentionality but allow for accident, I create patterns that invite deviation, and I celebrate fields of color – I see them everywhere. This is my response to the post abstract expressionist art world.”
